Come to the Community Board 1 meeting tonight, 7pm, Astoria World Manor, 25-22 Astoria Blvd. Dept of Transportation will be making a presentation on CitiBikes, so if you want them here, it’s time to start saying so.
Bonus! Astoria World Manor is a stunning monument of AsUg! I, for one, am thrilled to get to go inside, without getting married. If I’d known all along that local politics came with dazzlingly ugly chandeliers (CB1 meetings are there every 3rd Tues of every month), I would’ve gotten involved years ago!
[UPDATE post-meeting: Hot damn. DoT rep said bikeshare will happen no matter what! And new councilman Costa Constantinides said he supports it. If you want it to happen faster, keep an eye out for ways to give feedback on dock locations—the DoT will be setting up a map online to take suggestions, and there will be meetings. Oh, there will be meetings.]
I said it yesterday, but again: The AsUg endorsement (I know you were waiting for it before heading to the polls!) goes to Lynne Serpe for City Council District 22. Even if her lack of real-estate connections might just mean a little less Astoria Ugly. THAT is how magnanimous and big-picture AsUg is! Go vote now!
I know, you’re getting robo-calls up the wazoo, but may I strongly urge Lynne Serpe for council? As she’s not in cahoots with all the real-estate developers, she’s a partial antidote to Astoria Ugly. I especially appreciate that she’s in favor of the Newtown Pedestrian Plaza, which our community board so helpfully nixed last year. And a dog run! Who doesn’t like dogs?
Voting is tomorrow—vote Lynne!
(To Costa’s credit, we did get a real-live-person phone call last night, touting Costa’s qualifications, and it ended with “xe is a good man, and xe is Greek!” Normally, I vote Greek. But in this case, I think Astoria could use some new blood.)
