Photo 29 Dec 1 note Amboy California - Roy’s Gas & Cafe This is along Historic Route 66, a side-trip every tourist should take.  It adds very few miles along the I-40 route but has 3 times the beauty.  What killed most of the businesses did save the highway. Get your gas while you can and they pump for you.  Very nice staff and check out the early Route 66 diner interior.  Cheap food supplies to stock up on too.  And there are some cool little cabins if you want to wake up in Mohave. This is the Americana that can thankfully still be found by Europeans and the curious.
